Superintendent Johnson Report

Mr. Johnson announced that local school systems will have the flexibility to use the K-3 Reading Diagnostic Tools of their choosing for the 2020-2021 school year.  After much flap and legal wrangling from the Amplify vs. Istation controversy, Mr. Johnson said that giving local school systems this flexibility is “the right thing to do.”


Congratulations, Class of 2020!

A recognition of congratulations to the Class of 2020 by Superintendent Johnson and several members of the Board of Education kicked off the called meeting.


Remote Instruction Plan for 2020-2021

“Each public school unit shall develop a Remote Instruction Plan (RI Plan) for the 2020-2021 school year and shall submit its plan to the State Board no later than July 20, 2020, based on Session Law 2020-30, Senate Bill 704.”

The Remote Learning Plan was presented by the Department of Public Instruction to the State Board of Education for action on the first reading.  There are 13 components that list specific guidelines for school systems to follow when conducting remote learning for the upcoming school year.

  • Employee Benefits Manual Revisions

The two benefits manual policy revisions are clearly defining the categories of employees in relation to contagious diseases and the management of the State of Emergency Leave during a pandemic.

Provides funding for school nutrition services offered in response to COVID-19 by public school units participating in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program

  • HB1043 Section 3.3 (6) School Nutrition Proposed Allocations
